Protecting the quality of life for our children, families, businesses, and property owners.

In February 2022, eight suburban Chicago communities banded together to form The Coalition to Stop CPKC to protect the quality of life for our children, families, businesses, and property owners by opposing the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern merger.

Our Progress

The Coalition to Stop CPKC is currently in a seven-year oversight period. During this period, our Coalition communities are working alongside Canadian Pacific Kansas City Limited to ensure the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) merger mitigation measures are appropriately implemented. Included in these measures are train tracking technology, pedestrian gates at crossings, preservation and establishment of quiet zones, implementation of noise and vibration abatement measures, equipping local first responders with hazmat resources, and more.

Additionally, the Coalition has engaged in meaningful relationships with advisory partners, assisting our efforts to appeal the STB’s merger approval. In its decision, the STB chose economics over safety. Still, we continue to work diligently to ensure our concerns for the safety and quality of life of our residents are not overshadowed by profits.
